Fedora Electronic Lab is meant for advanced engineering, while Fedora Education LiveDVD comes in to serve the education field.

The Fedora Education SIG aims to optimize Fedora for use at universities and schools as well as for education usage by schoolers or students. First concepts for an educational solution based on Fedora had been created back when Fedora 8 was developed. Since the release of Fedora 10, the Education SIG has been providing and supporting an official spin of Fedora with a great number of pre-selected educational applications, giving the users an overview of their possibilities.

With Fedora 11, the Fedora Education SIG has worked on improving this concept and is now proud to offer two award-winning solutions, namely the KDE Education Package, as well as a test drive of the Sugar Desktop Environment on one single spin! The latter one has been highly acclaimed for running on OLPC's XO-1 and was successfully integrated into Fedora itself. On the other hand, also other popular applications have been included on the spin: remarkable ones include graphics software such as Gimp and Inkscape, but also the 3D modelling software Blender, as well as an office suite.

The Education Spin provides students and teachers with a new way of experiencing educational software: with this new release, users are directly able to switch between the two completely different desktops at the login screen, but also to install the contents of the live image to their hard drive, to continue using their applications.
